Victor Galindez vs Carlos Monzon

I know that Victor would probably win this, but could Carlos give him any problems that were unexpected?

i think monzon wins.he was a huge middle and i always thought strong enough to fight lightheavy. the problem was in his day bob foster loomed in the light heavyweight division and his freakish size and power would have been a major gamble for carlos. galindez was a bull but i think carlos had enough to conquer him. i envision carlos putting in a better effort than galindez conquerer mike rossman.

who wins?

It all comes down to how much Monzon is able to blunt Galindez's strength. If Monzon can put on a good, solid 10 pounds I see no reason why he can't give Galindez all that he could handle. Now, a prime Bob Foster is another kettle of fish altogether. I feel that a prime John Conteh beats Monzon as well.

Re: Galindez-Monzon

What weight limit are we talking about? And how many rounds?

Force Galindez down under 168 and you might have a heck of a fight. (If I recall, Galindez fought around 172-175, correct? Unless I'm thinking of someone else.) Taking nothing away from Monzon, one of the all time greats at middle, if the limit is 175, well... the good big man beats the good smaller man most of the time.

On the other hand, I've seen a lot of light heavies that Monzon would have given boxing lessons. Problem is, Galindez was not your typical light heavy. Pretty good fighter.

If 175 is the limit, Galindez by KO in the 8th or 9th. Force Galindez to drop eight or ten pounds and I'd think you might get a different result!

Sentinel - As i recall their was indeed some talk at the time of a Conteh-Monzon match, Carlos went for a sawn-off version in Napoles. it would have been interesting.

GALINDEZ-MONZON

This is really the master vs the pupil. Monzon was slick and liked to counter with rights and he looped a lot of his shots and looked clumsy at times. Galindez, even though he was short and stocky imitated Monzon in a lot of what he did....laying on the ropes countering and playing possum at times to kill time. Very crafty fighter.

Re: Victor Galindez vs Carlos Monzon

I don't like these fantasy matchups where a guy who's never moved up in weight now moves up, and yet we're to assess him as if he's actually beaten bigger men.

Monzon was not unbeatable or the perfect fighter. He had flaws, and most of his title defense wins (that were televised in the US) were not pretty.

You have to favor Galindez, I feel, until Monzon shows he can beat the guys Galindez was beating and sometimes destroying at a 15 pounds heavier weight.
