Marlon Starling vs Pipino Cuevas
In the end, what would win out, Starling's( who I would slightly favor)skills, or Cuevas' power?

Re: Marlon Starling vs Pipino Cuevas
You know at first I would pick Starling based on his defence and quicker hands. But Cuevas is not the type of boxer you want to mess around with on the inside and Starling often liked fighting on the inside.Cuevas by 9th round tko after being behind for most of the bout.

I don't believe Cuevas would
(not that he abosuletely COULDN'T) Ko Starling. No issues with reading that he out worked Mooch, but I think Marlon's chin was certainly strong enough to hear the final bell. His Ko to Molinares was a COMPLETE fluke and I don't think should be held agianst him.
The Magic Man's defense I think , IF Marlon was performing at his absolute best (whihc he should be in a fantasy bout), could lead him to a close points win. But even in his absolute best performances, Starling showed lapses in concentration, judgement and maturity. His clowning, disregard for seriousness and lack of paying attention, always seemed to surface. Even in his showcase performance agianst Honeyghan. I want to take Marlon in this bout becuase I think he COULD win it. But ultimately, I think Cuevas's professionalism, would pull out the victory for him. Hawk |

Re: Marlon Starling vs Pipino Cuevas
I like Starling big in this one.
He used those ringsmarts and that excellant radar of his and would not leave himself in that bad position vulnerable to a left hooker. Starling held those hands up nice and high and I think he fights a negative type bout to let the early rounds go by. If he does that plus takes away that left hook due to his positioning and upper body movement, Cuevas is going to be in trouble after about 6 or 7 rounds. I think late in the bout Starling would follow futch's advice and take the guy apart for a tko around round 13 or so. |

Re: Marlon Starling vs Pipino Cuevas
An evenly matched fight. I like Starling. No fear, better skills, he's all over Cuevas which was a problem for Cuevas against Duran and Hearns. Cuevas has the 1-punch KO power, true, but Starling knows this and avoids the big one. I also agree, the Molinares fight was a total fluke, incl. that the KO was after the bell. Starling by decision, as Cuevas had a terrific chin generally.
