Undefeated Junior Middleweight Pawel to Hold Media Workout at Gleason's Gym!

NEW YORK--Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak, the undefeated junior middleweight who will co-headline the “A Fistful of Shamrocks” pre-St. Patrick’s Day boxing extravaganza at Madison Square Garden ’s Theater on Saturday, March 15, 2008 , will hold a media workout on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 6:30 P.M.
The workout will be held at the fabled Gleason’s Gym, which is located at 83 Front Street , Brooklyn , NY 11201 , phone: 718-797-2872 .
Wolak, a native of Debica, Poland, who fights out of Brooklyn, has a 19-0 (13 KOS) record and is extremely popular in New York ’s Polish-American community.
The media workout will include sparring and interview sessions.
“A Fistful of Shamrocks” is being promoted by Celtic Gloves Promotions and will be headlined by undefeated Irish junior middleweight James Moore, 14-0 (10 KOS), a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, who fights out of Queens. He will be squaring off against J.C. Candelo, 27-9 (18 KOS), of Colombia.
Other Irish favorites scheduled to fight are lightweight Oisin Fagan, 20-5 (15 KOS), a Dublin native who fights out of Oklahoma City; junior middleweight Henry “Western Warrior” Coyle, 5-1 (5 KOS), of Chicago by way of County Mayo; and middleweight Simon “Slick Fighting Irish” O’Donnell, 5-1 (2 KOS), of County Galway.
In addition to the fights, live Irish music will be performed by the band “Big Girl’s Blouse.”

On Friday, February 22 at Reno, Nevada's Silver Legacy Casino, Iowa City's Emily Klinefelter was successful in her pro boxing debut as a bantamweight (118 pounds), defeating Durango, Mexico's Elizabeth Cervantes in a 4-round unanimous decision (40-36 on all three judge's cards).
As an amateur, Klinefelter had won 15 national and international gold medals. A University of Iowa College of Business graduate with a 4.0 GPA, Klinefelter is currently studying for her masters of accountancy at the University of Iowa.

The many contributions of long-time amateur boxing coach, volunteer amateur official, and professional referee Bill Thornburg will be remembered and celebrated on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 at the Matt Dishman Community Center, 77 NE Knott St in Portland, Oregon,where Thornburg coached so many youngsters for so many years. The event is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. in the auditorium. Those who knew Thornburg are invited to come and share their favorite stories with Bill’s family and friends.

Forbes to Challenge De La Hoya

Portland, OR native Steve “2-Pound” Forbes is in for the biggest fight of his boxing life May 3. That’s when he’ll face six-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., in a 150-pound bout to be televised on regular HBO.
The 30-year-old Forbes is 33-5 with nine knockouts. De La Hoya (38-5, 30 KOs), 34, hopes to use this fight as a tuneup for a September rematch with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Promoters say this will be the last fight in the L.A. area for De La Hoya, who is from East Los Angeles and won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympics.

El púgil chinandegano que hace carrera en los Estados Unidos, José Varela Salinas, clasificado en el casillero numero 11 de Organización Mundial de Boxeo –OMB- se enfrentara al colombiano Richard Gutiérrez por el campeonato latino de las 154 libras el viernes 22 de febrero en Fort Lauderdale.
El "Temible" Varela tiene un expediente de 22 triunfos y solo dos derrotas, con 16 de sus victorias por la vía del nocao. Gutiérrez tiene un expediente de 21-1 con 13 KO.
"Es una pelea muy interesante," declaro el cronista de boxeo Enrique Encinosa, "el Temible Varela es uno de los verdaderos prospectos de la división y ya se habla de el como un futuro campeón mundial, como lo mejor del boxeo nicaragüense actual. HINCKLEY, Minn.--Originally scheduled to fight former WBC Continental Americas light middleweight title holder Robert Kamya, David "The Weezel" (sic) Estrada (11-10, 8 KOs) faces former NABA Lightweight title holder James Crayton (34-26-2, 21 KOs) this evening at the Grand Casino.
Following his knockout victory over Bruce Rumbolz in December, Estrada said, “I’m feeling really good. I’m back on a winning streak and I want to keep it that way. I’m thankful to Chicago fans not giving up on me, ‘cause I haven’t given up on them!”
Crayton lost his last six bouts, including a stoppage loss to Jose Varela (23-2, 16 KOs) in November and a unanimous decision loss to Matt Vanda (37-5, 21 KOs) in July.
Spectators should be in for a grand treat at the casino, as the two should make for an entertaining crossroads match.
