ANTONIO TARVER SPECIAL GUEST ON NBC's NEW REALITY SERIES “THE CONTENDER”
SUNDAY, MARCH 27, AT 8PM (ET / PT) / 7PM (CT)

LOS ANGELES, March 25 – Boxing superstar Antonio "Magic Man" Tarver captivated the boxing world in 2004 with his rise to prominence against the odds. On Sunday, March 27 at 8pm (ET/PT) 7pm (CT), Tarver will impart his wisdom to the 12 remaining boxers on NBC’s new reality series “The Contender” when he appears on the show as a special guest star. “I’ve been through all the struggles that the fight game can throw at you, and I’ve prevailed,” said Tarver, one of the premier light heavyweights in the world today. “I’m honored to be able to share my story and help the remaining boxers on “The Contender” to achieve their dreams in the ring.” “I’d like to thank the fans for all their continued support, and I assure them that 2005 will be my greatest year ever. Boxing world, look out, because the “Magic Man” is going to make all opponents disappear.”

Duva: "Holt is a Natural for Cotto!"

Promoter Dino Duva of Duva Boxing says that WBO Super Lightweight champion Miguel Cotto should look no further than nearby Paterson, New Jersey for the opponent for his scheduled June 18 Madison Square Garden appearance. “Kendall Holt is a natural for this fight,” says Duva. “He lives ten minutes from Manhattan, he’s already fought at the Garden in front of 13,000 people on the Klitschko-Johnson undercard and he just had a sensational KO win on Sho-Box over # 2-ranked David Diaz. He's the perfect opponent for Cotto in NY.”

Holt, 18-1 (12) complete record, looked sensational in dismantling the previously undefeated Diaz (TKO 8) last February. “Demarcus Corley showed what good hand speed can do against Cotto, now add in Kendall’s incredible power and you’ve got a recipe for one heck of a fight. A superstar Puerto Rican champion on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade taking on an up-and-coming local boy at Madison Square Garden and live on HBO.”

CES signs USBA champion Yusef Mack

PROVIDENCE, RI – Promoter Jimmy Burchfield today announced that his company, Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., has signed USBA super middleweight champion Yusef Mack (18-0-2, 11 KOs) to a promotional contract.

Mack, 26, is rated No. 14 by the International Boxing Federation. He captured the USBA title in October with an eighth-round TKO of Shannon Miller and made his first title defense last Friday night in Las Vegas, winning a 12-round unanimous decision (119-109, 119-109, 118-110) against Richard Grant. A typically tough Philadelphia fighter, Yosef also holds a victory against (21-4-2) Donnell Wiggens (KO2) and fought (17-1-1) Randy Griffin to a draw.

“Yusef is one of the best young prospects in boxing,” Burchfield said. “His manager/trainer Percy Custas is one of the best around. It’s great to be working with Team Mack.”
