LAS VEGAS, NV, May 2, 2015 — Two hours after Floyd Mayweather decisioned Manny Pacquiao, former light heavyweight contender and current boxing trainer “Ice” John Scully met up with IBF Lightweight Champion Mickey Bey in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel.  This is his interview.  Of his encounter, he writes the following report:

“One reason I love to attend big fights is because of the fact that it usually evolves into a reunion of sorts for the boxers and former boxers in attendance. Many times the events surrounding the fights are more memorable than the actual fights themselves. This past weekend in Las Vegas, for example, I spent a lot of time in the MGM Grand hotel lobby running into and reminiscing with many friends from within the boxing game.

As a coach of amateur boxers in the 1990′s and early 2000′s I frequently traveled to national tournaments throughout the country several times each year and as a result was able to witness many future contenders and world champions in action in their early years of development as boxers. It’s always interesting to see young boxers on their way to future fame and fortune and success in the professional game.

One of the kids I saw many times back then is now the current IBF world lightweight champion, the very talented Mickey Bey. Boxing out of Las Vegas via Cleveland, Ohio, I always shout him out as one of the nicest and most grounded and humble boxers I’ve come across. Always proud of him, I wanted to take a few moments to catch up with him an hour or two after the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight this past weekend in Las Vegas and give him a chance to let the boxing world know what’s going on with him and his career these days.
