HOUSTON, TX, April 3, 2011 — March 26th and 27th marked the grand opening of the Undefeated Fight Club located at 5263 Barker Cypress, Suite 100, Houston,Texas 77084.  The project is the brainchild and proverbial “labor of love” from its proprietors, Rosemary Acosta-Clark and Michael Campbell, who also own and publish its two sister enterprises; and the only magazine devoted to the local boxing and MMA scene, Undefeated Magazine. The two day event was a star-studded gala featuring home-grown boxing dignitaries such as: Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, Marcus “Too Much” Johnson, and Alfonso “El Tigre” Lopez.
mj3The 5000 square ft. gymnasium and multimedia center is located in west Houston a short distance off of Interstate 10, thereby making it a convenient destination for fighters and combative sports personnel traveling in from Austin and San Antonio.  The facility is replete with an abreast of the times boxing ring with lighting, all new punching bags, floor mats and video interview facilities.  The endeavor is the first of its kind in the Bayou City, and hopefully will give Houston boxing a much needed shot in the arm as the local fight scene has been somewhat stagnant and underachieving in recent months due to various reasons. July 4, 2010 — At the beginning of summer, I attended the Rock Solid Promotions card at the Humble Civic Center that featured a little bit of everything on the boxing menu for the Bayou City fight fans.  Local Light Heavyweight comer Alfonso Lopez outpunched former contender Rubin Williams in the main event for a unanimous decision victory in what can be best described as a milling type of fight, and Johanna Mendez fought well and won a lively majority verdict over Christina Ruiz in a fight that saw Mendez use her faster hand speed and ring movement to outbox her aggressive rival in a close and hard fought affair.
Heavyweight slugger Darlington Agha ran his record to 3-0 with all wins coming via Sominex City as he smashed veteran James Johnson to the canvas in less than two, determined winger Fernando Castaneda deployed brutal left hooks to the body and heavy right hands uptop to beat up tough Deon Nash and stop him in the 5th round of a jr. middleweight scrap, and lightweight Alicio Castaneda survived a cut to work over pound a game Oscar Roville who toughed it out with Alicio and went the distance with him in a gruelling four rounder that went unanimously for Galvestonian Castaneda. Alfonso Lopez wins ‘Rock Solid’ Rout!

by on Sep.17, 2009, under Boxing News, CBZ Columnists

Undefeated super middleweight Alfonso Lopez improved his record to 16-0 with 13 wins coming via the “Short Circuit Route” as he pulverized Aaron Norwood with a vicious left hook to the liver at the 1:14 mark of the fourth round at the Humble Civic Center on Wednesday night at Rock Solid Promotions first professional boxing card of the fall season.

Lopez had way too much boxing ability, power, and punch placement and dismantled the veteran from the opening bell.  Lopez jabbed, hooked off the jab, feinted, hooked and crossed his way to an easy victory as Norwood was already in heavy breathing by round two from the rib roasters underneath.
