Seven pounds, the amount of weight many newborns tip the scales at, human beings so minute that caution is at the forefront of the parents’ agendas. Seven pounds, the heaviness worth $2.31 after homeless people sell steel to recyclers, a sum so insignificant that one would be hard-pressed to lose sleep over its very loss. Seven pounds, the difference between two talented weight divisions, an advantage (or disadvantage) so scientific that its very substance enamors boxing purists.

This seemingly irrelevant measure is the price light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson had to pay in order to do something that his boxing predecessors were innately born with: a desire to fight the best even after attaining the highest possible status. (continue reading…)

ward_dawson_1 Andre Ward celebrates his dominating victory.

OAKLAND, CA, September, 08, 2012 – Andre Ward continued to improve and show new dimensions in style and temperament in his most impressive victory to date as he executed an absolutely savage and relentless beat down against the hapless Chad Dawson, eventually ending matters in the 10th round.

The packed house of 8500 heartily booed “Bad” Chad Dawson of New Haven, Connecticut (31-1-0, 17 kos) as he was the first to enter the ring. Chad was all business and no theatrics as he walked briskly to the ring looking big, strong, and confident.  The entire arena rose their feet for native son Andre “S.O.G.” Ward’s (25-0-0, 13 kos) ring walk and stayed on their feet for the entire duration of introductions showing their love for the local phenom. OAKLAND, CA — Former pro fighter turned top boxing trainer “ICE” or “ICEMAN” John Scully was kind enough to sit down and do some Q & A with the Cyber Boxing Zone. As he prepares his charge Light Heavyweight World Champion “Bad” Chad Dawson during the final week of preparations for his now TWO days away challenge of current Undisputed Middleweight Champion Andre “SOG” Ward, these are some of his thoughts on how things have gone during training camp.

CBZ: How do you feel the training went for this fight?

ICE: At this point I am very excited about it all because Chad is so upbeat and focused. Nothing seems to be bothering or worrying him or concerning him for this fight. The longest training camp of his entire career has put him in a very, very positive frame of mind. I think that coupled with having come off the win over Hopkins has done wonders for his confidence and his outlook on his career, his training and his future.

Andre Ward answers questions for the media.

OAKLAND, CA – September 5th, 2012 – Local favorite and current Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion Andre ‘S.O.G.’ Ward and visiting underdog ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson met with local media ahead of their upcoming September 8th showdown.

The undefeated and fifth ranked Pound for Pound fighter in the world Andre Ward (25-0-0, 13 kos) was the first to field questions as this is his hometown and gym. A common recurring question to Ward was whether he should have taken on a lesser opponent after the grueling schedule in Showtime’s Super Six boxing tournament. Andre Ward as calmly and confidently as possible stressed some strong points in retort, the main theme being that he hasn’t taken any beatings in his career and feels healthy, he assured everyone that he would take an easy fight if he needed it. Also, he laid out a plan for his career stating that he is “nearing” his prime but hasn’t reached it quite yet and that he doesn’t want to fight forever, opting to get out while still on top rather than toil away when he’s past his best.
