Bobby Hitz calls on Governor Quinn to replace Nancy Illg at Illinois Athletic Commission

STATEMENT FROM BOBBY HITZ The following statement may be attributed to Chicago Boxing promoter Bobby Hitz, in response to the controversy surrounding the Illinois Athletic Commission and the draw following the George vs. Lopez  fight at UIC Pavilion on Friday, March 22

For Immediate Release Wednesday, March 27, 2013

“On Friday, March 22, the Illinois Athletic Commission (IAC) embarrassed the Chicago boxing community during a nationally televised fight card which featured a match-up between Donovan George and David Alonso Lopez.  While many understandably believe the IAC should suspend the judges, the real problem lies with the commission and its incompetent leadership.  I call on Governor Quinn to reform the commission and replace its director, Nancy Illg, with someone who has the necessary experience to regulate boxing. ‘Godfather of Chicago Boxing’ Hosts Valentine’s Day Weekend Night of Boxing

Bobby Hitz, the “Godfather of Chicago Boxing” will return on Friday, February 15, 2013, with his own version of a St. Valentine’s Day massacre in the form of another of his jam-packed nights of old-school professional boxing at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana.

Fresh off an extended recurring role on the Fox series Mob Doctor where he played right hand man to the mob boss played by William Forsythe, Hitz will continue his series of Horseshoe boxing shows that are known for consistently delivering all-action fights to the sold-out crowds who flock to this Indiana casino just 20 minutes outside Chicago. Watching Jean-Marc Mormeck get blown out by Wladimir Klitschko last weekend, the frustration was overwhelming for long-time heavyweight contender “Fast” Fres Oquendo (33-7, 22 KOs).

The Chicago-based fighter had soundly beaten Mormeck (everywhere but the scorecards) in Mormeck’s adopted home of France in 2010. And that “victory” by Mormeck, coupled with another questionable win over former champ Timur Ibragimov, seemed to be the two fights that propelled Mormeck into the embarrassing Klitschko fight. Hitz Returns May 18th with ‘Rosemont Rumble’

On Wednesday, May 18, Hitz Boxing and its founder, Bobby Hitz, will return to where it all began, Rosemont, Illinois, for another night of world-class boxing entitled the “Rosemont Rumble” at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

The night’s main event will feature popular Irish Middleweight contender Andy Lee (25-1, 19 KOs). Coming off a sensational come-from-behind TKO 10 over Craig McEwan on HBO, Lee will be looking to continue his strong momentum against an opponent that is still TBA.
