HALLE, Germany — Legendary cruiserweight rivals Ola “Kryptonite” Afolabi and Marco “Kapt’ n” Huck will meet for the fourth time on Saturday, February 27 at Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Germany.

Presented by Huck Sports Promotion, from London, England and currently living in Los Angeles, California, Afolabi, 22-4-4 (11KO’s), will defend his IBO Cruiserweight World Title against Huck, 38-3-1 (26KO’s) of Berlin, Germany at the famed tennis stadium. (continue reading…)

When he enters the ring next Friday, August 14, Polish heavyweight hero Artur Szpilka says he is eager to show off the improvements he has made working with trainer Ronnie Shields.

Szpilka (19-1, 14 KOs) will face Cuba’s Yasmany Consuegra (17-1, 14 KOs) in the chief supporting bout of the Premier Boxing Champions on Spike doubleheader featuring Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver (31-6, 22 KOs) facing Philadelphia’s Steve “USS” Cunningham (28-7, 13 KOs) and cruiserweight champion Marco “Captain” Huck (38-2-1, 26 KOs) defending his title against Szpilka’s countryman Krzyzstof Glowacki (24-0, 15 KOs) at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey. VENICE, CA, June 17, 2013 — One week after challenging for the WBO Cruiserweight World Title, top rated contender Ola Afolabi has returned home to Southern California and is preparing to map out his future for another world title opportunity.

It was early Saturday morning when I decided to take the “scenic” drive up south State Highway 6 replete with its smashed roofs on old wood framed houses, rusted relics of automobiles from the 70′s and 80′s sitting on brake drums and twisted tire rims in dusty shell driveways, broken and shattered appliances littering front yards overgrown with weeds and thorn bushes, and rotting road kill highlights every half mile or so. The thoroughfare of this teeming metropolis is dotted with such signs that read: “Garcia’s Motor Scotters” “Fresh Mangoes and Oranjes” “Washateria and Dry Clearners” and “Concret work done cheap!” Yes, sports fans, the Clampett’s are alive and well in Southeast Texas.

I was going that day to Savannah’s and have a look at WBO Cruiserweight challenger, Adam “Swamp Donkey” Richards as he was preparing to take on that organization’s titleholder, Marco “Kapt’N” Huck on March 13th at the Max Schmeling Hall in Berlin, Germany.  Savannah’s is the top gym with the top fighters, trainers, and managers in Texas.  Fighters from all over the world come to train there, and as far as boxing gyms go, it is top shelf.  (continue reading…)
