By Karl Hegman

“Remember, the enemy has only images, and illusions, behind which he hides his true motives.  Destroy the image, and you will break the enemy.”-Roy Chiao, “Enter The Dragon”

omar_henry_01A blinding flash of white light followed by the deafening hum of a tuning fork went off in the wounded fighter’s head, reverberating throughout every inch of his entire body, rendering him unable to defend himself or extricate his torso from the turnbuckle. The injured Latino listed backwards to the ropes in a helpless state, and instinctively spat out his mouthpiece in a desperate move to gain a precious few moments in the hope that he could regain his senses, but it was not to be.  As his assassin bounded up and down in a neutral corner, eager for the kill, referee Neal Young replaced the stricken pugilist’s mouthpiece, and a ballet in brutality immediately emerged thereafter as young super welterweight Omar Henry glided in for the kill, hands up and chin down in the prototypical boxing stance, grimly focused and determined on making Angel Sigala his fifth first round knockout victim in a row.omar_henry_02

omar_henry_03A lead left jab followed by a precision flurry of right hands and left hooks blistered Sigala who was trapped in the ropes like a rodent cornered by a hungry bobcat.  A volcanic right to the chin drove his head straight up as his unseeing eyes rolled in their sockets, and his lifeless torso sagged downwards as his knees collapsed under him like a marionette with its strings suddenly cut. His hands dropped to his waist and he ate a left hook that rendered him wide open for the final, and perhaps fatal, series of blows that would finish him off.  It was only the quick action by Young diving in harm’s way and pulling Henry away from him that quite possibly saved a human life after only 34 seconds had elapsed in the opening round.omar_henry_04 (continue reading…)

ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico, June 20, 2009 –- Newly signed Top Rank prospect Omar Henry impressed his new bosses with a spectacular performance in the Mexican west coast sea town of Ensenada.  A left hook started his opponent, Alfonso Gonzales, reeling backwards only a few seconds after the opening bell, and a straight right hand ended it, sending his foe to the canvas with wobbly legs prompting the referee to halt the bout.

The bout was Henry’s first outside of the USA and he was able to gain some new fans south of his home state of Texas.  Top Rank partnered with Zanfer Promotions to hold the fight at Gimnasio Oscar “Tigre” García. (continue reading…)
