2015 U.S. National Champion Patrick Ferguson Notches Important Win in Spokane

Two of the top amateur heavyweights in the country, both from the state of Washington, met in a highly anticipated cross state match-up last Saturday night at River Front Park in Spokane. Local favorite Patrick Ferguson and Matt Mollet, of Tacoma, two decorated fighters with hopes for Olympic competition, met in the main attraction of the nineteen bout “Rumble on the River” fight card staged by the Pacific Northwest’s long-time top heavyweight pro Chauncy Welliver. The show was presented free of charge by Welliver and his Boxfit Gym and by the main event, had a large crowd packed into the small and picturesque patio area overlooking the falls at the park.

Most of the fans in attendance had come to see their local Olympic hopeful, 2015 U.S. National amateur Champion Patrick Ferguson step up to face one of his toughest challenges in two-time Golden Gloves Champion and 2014 Jr. Pan-Am Games Champion Matt Mollet of the Tacoma Boxing Club. The fact that two fighters from Washington state would be among the best in the country in the same division made the fight an intriguing and inevitable proposition. When they finally stepped into the ring they did not disappoint the high hopes of those in attendance, both giving a great effort and putting on a closely contested and highly entertaining fight.
