TYSON'S DAY WITH DESTINY

Former champion Mike Tyson, who kept his comeback hopes alive on a wing, a prayer, and that straight right ten days ago against Frans Botha is once again rolling the dice with his boxing career as well as his personal freedom. Next week in Maryland,  Tyson will be sentenced for his admitted assault of two men after a small fender bender August 31, in Maryland.

WIFE: SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL

After the incident, Tyson's wife stated that Mike assaulted no one but during Mike's hearing with the NSAC, Mrs.Tyson stated that if he did - she did not see it.  Sounds like pleading the Fifth for your husband to me. Regardless, Tyson might be standing without a chair at the gallows with a noose around his neck next week.

SHOWTIME SUITS SAY NO

S.E.T., SHOWTIME's Pay Per View arm will not make a deal with a future Tyson opponent until sentencing on February 5. I guess they realized it wouldn't be too smart to spend any money on a promotion until they learn of Tyson's fate.  Although SET did make money on the Botha fight, that might be the last Maniac Mike show for a while.

GERMAN OFF DANCE CARD

Axel Shultz of Germany was dropped from the short list of fighters that might face Tyson next.  It seems that SET does not want Tyson to lose against a lesser-named fighter.    You see, the pie would not be so big in a rematch if Tyson lost to a schmo like Axel.

JOSE STRIKES BACK

The President of the WBC Jose Sulaiman lashed out at the media and more specifically the HBO commentators, and HBO vice president Lou Di Bella for their comments after the Roy Jones-Rick Frazier debacle.

SUSPECT #1 CONTENDER

First of all, HBO claimed that Jones was forced into fighting the police officer from New York if he expected to keep his WBC belt.  When asked why he took this fight with Frazier, Jones said because he was the mandatory fighter for the WBC.

FRAZIER #1, BUT?

Jose claims that even though Frazier is ranked #1 by the WBC, he never told Jones that he had to fight Frazier or give up his WBC portion of the light heavyweight crown.  He even goes on to state that he thought the fight was only going to be for the WBA and not his WBC belt.

RAISE YOUR RIGHT HAND PLEASE

I think both sides are fudging on the truth.  First of all, Frazier's manager Grant Phillips (Remember Luis Santana?) has connections with the WBC.  This can easily explain the top ranking given to Frazier by the WBC because it sure the hell can't be on his fighting ability.

Secondly, I do not think HBO would allow this fight to happen without contacting Jose Sulaiman himself.  Jose must have told them something that leaned towards this being a mandatory.

BLAME ROY

I could place all the blame on Roy Jones Jr.  Sir Roy talks all this spit about not fighting mandatory fighters like Michael Nunn because they are not worthy of a decent purse, but he makes no beef about fighting Rick Frazier until afterwards. "They made me fight him, so what can I do?"

HEY ROY

HBO matchmaker Lou Di Bella would be glad to put your name on a contract along side Darius Michalczewski name for a unification bout with the Polish born German. The ball is now in your court Roy, what are you going to do?  Keep on selling woof tickets, or back up your smack?

MOORER GETS DITCHED AS COPS WATCH

Michael Moorer is back in the news, and it is not because he weighs 300 lbs. And nobody is talking about a comeback fight for the former two time heavyweight champion. No, it seems Michael was at a bar Saturday night when he became upset and left the joint in a rage.    Not long after Moorer split, he crashed his car into a guard rail.  When approached by a deputy, Moorer sped off without responding to the officer.

HOT PURSUIT

With the officer hot on his 300 lb. tail, Moorer lost control of his vehicle once again, only to find himself in a ditch with no chance of escape.

MOORER HAS BAD REP, BUSTED UP COPS BEFORE

The deputy was forced to pull his gun on Moorer when the former champ became angry and would not cooperate.  Friends finally convinced Michael to give himself up without a fight.  Moorer was charged with Drunk Driving, Evading Arrest, and acting a fool!
