Bert Schenk Pulls Out of World Title Defense Due to Injury |
Hamburg - 12 July 1999. German WBO World Middleweight Champion Bert Schenk pulled out of his mandatory defense against the Brit Ryan Rhodes today. The fight was scheduled to take place next Saturday in England. Schenk was diagnosed with acute lumbago by his doctors last week. The 28-year-old German was hoping to recover over the weekend. But another inspectation on Monday came up with the same diagnosis, making Schenk unable to fight for the next weeks. The German won the vacant WBO Middleweight crown on 30 January with a knockout over Freeman Barr and defended the title in May against Jose Medina-Padilla with an unanimous decision victory. The fight between Schenk and Rhodes will be postponed to a later date. Fabian
