Dariusz Michalczewski to Defend Title Against David Telesco: Fabian Weber

Bremen
7 July 1999
German Dariusz Michalczewski will make his 16th defense of his WBO Light Heavyweight Title on August 28th against American David Telesco. The event will take place in the Stadthalle Bremen - the arena where Michalczewski's last defended his title against the Russian fighter Biarslanov.

The 31-year-old Telesco has a record of 21 wins (17 KOs) against two losses. Telesco is ranked highly by all world boxing organizations and in independent rankings. The WBC ranks Telesco #3, the WBA #2, the IBF #4 and the WBO has the fighter ranked #3. The Independent World Boxing Rankings rate Telesco at number 6.

Telesco scored the biggest win of his career last year, when he knocked out his countryman Frank Tate. After this victory the dread-locked man from Fort Chester was repeatedly mentioned as possible opponent for Roy Jones Jr., who is holding the WBA, WBC and IBF titles in contrast to Michalczewski's WBO laurels.

"I hope the fight against Telesco will be my dress rehearsal for a showdown against Roy Jones or a rematch against Graciano Rocchigiani", Michalczewski said.

The 31-year-old Michalczewski is 40-0 with 33 knockouts.
