WBC #9 SUPER-WELTER OHIGASHI WINS OVER EX-OPBF WELTER CHAMP YUN

OSAKA, JAPAN-WBC #9 ranked super-welter contender AKIRA OHIGASHI, 155 3/4, eked out a majority decision over ex-OPBF welter champ SUKHYUN YUN, 155 3/4, Korea, over 10.

Scored: referee Harada 96-96, judges Uenaka and Miyazaki 98-97 and 96-95 respectively, both for Ohigashi, 30-7-2, 19 KOs. Yun, who lost his OPBF 147-lbs. title to Aussie Shannan Taylor on a technical decision in Sydney Sept., 1998, fell to 19-11, 9 KOs.

It's a close fight as Yun kept peppering light but busy combinations and Ohigashi occasionally landed solid but sporadic shots.

UNDERCARDS:
Unbeaten prospect, JBC #9 ranked bantam AKIHIRO KANAI, 121 1/4, made short work of Korean BYUNGOK KIM, KBC #3 bantie, 121 1/4, stopping him at 2:50 of the opening session in a scheduled 10.

JBC #1 ranked YOSUKE KANEISHI, 116 1/2, engaged in a tune-up bout prior to his mandatory title shot at the national title against Kazuhiro Ryuko in the annual Carnival of Champions, but was held to a technical draw by NOBUHIRO UEMA, 116 1/4, in the third round in a scheduled 8. Taiho Promotions.
