November 11, 1999
The America Presents/Oregon Trails show for the Portland Rose Garden
on Sunday, Nov. 14 starts at 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time for the
convenience of being nationally televised by the Fox Sports Network. The
card is currently designed to look like this:
Ten round co-main events:
Heavyweights, 35 year-old Jorge Luis Gonzalez (29-5,27 KO's) of Las Vegas
via Cuba vs 41 year-old Greg Page (55-13-1, 45 KO's) of Louisville,
Kentucky.
This match came together only the week of the fight. The original
opponent scheduled for Gonzalez was 29 year-old Jameel McCline (20-2-1, 14
KO) of New York. McCline fell out a few weeks back and was replaced by
Greg Page, who was required to submit to extra medical and neurological
tests due to his age. Page dropped out last week saying he'd been offered
big bucks by notorious promoter Ross "Wells Fargo" Field Smith to take a
fight in the "Legends" geriatric display scheduled for Puerto Rico.
McCline was suddenly back in. Then, as of Monday, McCline's doctor sent a
note saying McCline had an "inflamed rotator cuff," and couldn't fight.
Meanwhile, Jim Cassidy, the executive director of Oregon's Boxing and
Wrestling Commission slapped an administrative suspension on Greg Page for
failing to fulfill his contract with America Presents. Puerto Rico honored
the suspension. Some rumors say the proposed Legends fight died anyway.
Greg Page came back to America Presents to honor his contract. This is
reported as of Wednesday, Nov. 10, and with four days still to go, this
volatile match may or may not stick.
Lightweights, 35 year-old John-John Molina (48-6, 32KO's) of Puerto Rico,
the former 3-time Jr lightweight world champ vs 25 year-old Manuel Garnica
(19-3, 11 KO's) , the Mexican champion who won an upset victory in October
over come-backing Gabriel Ruelas.
The Molina-Garnica bout replaces a previously announced match between
Rafael Ruelas and Wilford Negron. Ruelas was reportedly scratched by a
rotator cuff injury.
Undercard:
Lightweights, Margaret MacGregor (3-0) of Bremerton, WA. vs Cheryl Nance
(5-2) of North Carolina
Middleweights, Anthony Bartinelli of Poenix, Arizona vs Roberto Dellapeena
of British Colombia
Light Heavyweights, Ronnie Warren of Tacoma, WA vs Jeremy Morrison of Utah
Welterweights, Virgil Bohnenkamp of Portland, OR vs Robert Howard of
Kansas City, Missouri
