NO CONTEST

Next week, former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson will enter a plea of No Contest to the two Assault charges filed against him in Maryland, after an August 31, incident of Road Rage.

The No Contest plea is for all intents and purposes a Guilty plea, at least that's what it was when I quit the police department in 1989.

STANFORD LAW GOD BROUGHT IN

There are times when I mention the Ring Talk "Legal Mind." He is the Stanford Law Wiz with no name. We'll just call him Skip. After interrupting his Thanksgiving dinner, he set the record straight on the No Contest issue.

SAME AS GUILTY

"Pete, in a Criminal case, pleading No Contest is the same thing as a Guilty plea. However, the plea offers some Civil protection. You see if a subject entered a Guilty plea in Criminal case, then he cannot contest the charges in Civil court."

"But, if he were to plead No Contest, then he could still defend himself against the charges in Civil litigation."

PAROLE BOYS ASLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL?

It seems the Indiana officials are going out of their way to bend over backwards for Tyson. Could it be that they knew that Desiree Washington had accused Wayne Powell, a high school football star of Rape.

"DADDY, HE RAPED ME"

Washington later recanted her story when her father set up a meeting with Wayne and his father. During the meeting Desiree broke down and admitted that "she had consented" to having sex with Powell, who as an adult would have been looking at hard time.

AFFIDAVIT FILED

When Powell, a white college student heard that Ms. Washington had filed charges against Tyson, he offered to testify as to Ms. Washington's credibility, or lack there of.

SHIELD LAW

The Rape victim's Shield Law states you cannot bring up the sexual past of the victim. BUT what about her credibility?

PAROLE BOYS TO ACT?

Although there is talk of Tyson going back to jail for three years in Indiana, I hear there are  instead attempts being made to lengthen Tyson's Parole which was set to expire in March of 1999.

STILL, GOOSSEN SAYS TYSON'S PRESS MEETING AFTER T-DAY WEEKEND

Dan Goossen, the COO of Tyson's new promoter AMERICA PRESENTS told me before he left for Palm Springs that he anticipated a media gathering announcing Tyson vs. Frans Botha on January 16, from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in the coming week, most likely in Los Angeles.

ARUM ALMOST HAD A STROKE!

Oscar De La Hoya's promoter Bob Arum has always been known to overreact to situations that hit close to home. And when an 18 year old San Bernadino, CA girl filed a Civil suit this week charging Oscar De La Hoya with among other things, Rape, Arum was in need of Medical Marijuana.

REDUNDANT, NOT!

Check yesterday's Mid Week Madness to get the real crux of the story. But the bottom line is that this broad is seeking $10 million from De La Hoya for an alleged Assault that took place two and a half years ago in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

NOT A CRIME!

If he was 23 at the time of the alleged sexual liaison, and she was 15 as she claimed then there was NO crime committed in Mexico. Besides, you don't think Oscar would make it with a girl who really looked 15, do you?

LOTS OF DAMES

The Women's lib people seem to be at the forefront of this lawsuit, just as the Religious Right was backing Paula Jones in her attempt to bring down the President.

CHICK'S LAWYER IRKED

It seemed the alleged victim's lawyer Lisa Maki, was upset because Oscar's attorney told her that the Golden Boy had been with 500 dames since then and that he doesn't even remember her client. (Now we know why they call him the Golden Boy!)

SAVED DNA?

That's what was hinted to at the press conference held by Ms. Maki earlier this week.

ALMOST THREE YEARS? FEMALES SCREWING THEMSELVES!

Hey look, I know men are pigs for the most part. With that, you will get no argument.

FEMALE, THE LESS NOBLE OF THE TWO SEXES?

What do you think of women who can now use allegations of sexual misbehavior not only to procure money from the wealthy, but soon to be ex-wives are doing the same thing in order to get the father out of their child's picture. It happens everyday!

I'M ALMOST READY TO ADVOCATE "US VS. THEM"

I never wanted to look at it from that vantage point. But men today can be hauled into court and accused of anything. And although it should be the accuser's role to prove the case, more often than not, the subject is presumed Guilty and is forced to prove his innocence.

HOW DO YOU PROVE A NEGATIVE?

You can't! Therefore the ladies/wives  have the upper hand on this one.

MONEY TRAIN STOPS HERE!

Both that bimbo attorney and her client are a sad representation of the female sex. You see, even if by some stretch of the imagination that this was true, why would someone wait two and a half years to make a complaint?

TERRIFIED!

That is the reason she gave for waiting until she was 18 to file this suit! Terrified of what? Terrified of a 40 hour gig!

MONEY, BEHIND THIS B.S.

No, the real reason is the little bitch is now claiming Rape is she is
about to get out of high school and faces the certainty of having to be
employed.

A ONE NIGHT STAND!

That's all she was. This is what the two women don't understand!

WHAT DOES SHE WANT?

"I think we can get more than ($10 million) based on the evidence we have and the    research I've done," lawyer Maki said. "I believe we can get double that."

PROPER SPIN PUT FORTH BY DEAD JAZZMAN

To quote the late Johnny "Guitar" Watson, "Ain't that a Bitch?" No Johnny, that's two of them!

LOPEZ' NEXT FOE GETS OFF DECK TO WIN

Saman Sorjaturong defended the WBC 108 lb. title for the 10th time Thursday by winning a unanimous nod over Mexican Ladislao Vazquez, the #8 contender.

Saman is the next opponent for unbeaten 105 lb. champ Ricardo Lopez.

The cards read 115-113 twice, and 116-114, for the once beaten Saman who was dropped with a left hook in the fifth round. The champ's lone loss was to Ricardo Lopez, who bombed the Thai out in two heats.

Here's Lopez on the Thai fighter. "Saman has improved greatly since we fought the first time. He is bigger and stronger than he was also. This will be no easy fight for me." I'm hearing the two will dance in February.

THE ONE TIME!

In 1996, I had two chances to try and talk to baseball legend Joe Di Maggio. And for the only time that I can remember, Pedro didn't go for it.

AT THE PONIES!

It was at the Bay Meadows Race Track in San Mateo, CA when Joltin' Joe was in the Bay Area visiting friends and appearing at an autograph show where he was getting $350 for his signature.

DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO ASK HIM?

That's why I think I choked both times. Here he was sitting in the reserved seats in the last row of the Turf Club seating all by himself reading the Racing Form.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Joe turned 84 this week amidst reports that he is gravely ill. We at
fighters.com, and the entire Ring Talk family wish him well!

WANTED TO "SUE" SIMON & GARFUNKEL

When Joe first heard the Simon and Garfunkel hit Mrs. Robinson, he wanted to sue thinking he was being slammed. The Yankee legend didn't know that songwriter Simon was praising him for being the American Icon that he is.
