DUVA GAINS COURTROOM WIN OVER KING
In what boils down to a battle between the Duva promotional firm Main Events, and promoter
Don King was won by the Totowa, NJ group as Superior Court Judge Amos Sanders ruled that
this week's fight in France between #1 rated contender Andrei Pestraiev and #3 James Page
cannot be billed a match for the vacant WBA welterweight title.
QUARTEY STRIPPED
Ike Quartey was stripped of this belt last month when the WBA (World of Bungling Asses)
deemed that Ike, a titleholder since 1994, had not been active enough.
These Venezuelan gangsters didn't take into account the fact that Pernell Whitaker pulled
out of two fights with the unbeaten fighter from Ghana, before an upper respiratory
infection brought about by a touch of Malaria brought about the postponement of his August
20, defense against Pestraiev.
PESTRAIEV A "HOBO"
But he's got the Acaries Bros. promoting him and they have their way when it comes to the
WBA. The French based Russian shouldn't even be back in any type of title contention
seeing a Coked out Pernell Whitaker convincingly defeated him over 12 rounds last October.
JUDGMENT CONT...
The order also prohibits SHOWTIME from referring to the match they are scheduled to
televise on a delayed basis this Saturday night as a WBA title bout, and that no WBA bout
for the 147 lb. crown can occur without #2 ranked Jose Luis Lopez of Mexico.
IT'S PRETTY CLEAR THAT...
The Duva clan was a winner this time over Don King. Of course, they also had one of their
favorite judges in Amos Saunders looking at the matter. But regardless of the jurist, the
decision was fair seeing Lopez is the #2 contender, and a far better pugilist than the
Russkie or the still young #3 contender James Page.
BUT THE BIG BATTLE IS...
Whether Tito Trinidad has to go back to the King promotional group. Or will the contract
he signed six weeks ago with the Duva's be deemed valid? That decision is expected at
anytime from Judge Lawrence McKenna, a Federal panelist from New York City.
TITO'S THE BIG ENCHILADA
You know he is! Felix Trinidad probably beats Oscar De La Hoya right now. And at 6'0, he
is a middleweight restrained by his desire to meet De La Hoya, and or Quartey at 147 lbs.
for all the marbles.
FIGHTERS.COM ALWAYS FIRST WITH BREAKING NEWS...
Will of course bring you the Trinidad-King decision (before) or when it's announced.
