CHELSEA, Mass. - John Ruiz's Corner and Don King Promotions have reached a
verbal agreement for John "The Quietman" Ruiz (36-3, 27 KOs), ranked No. 1 by
the WBA and WBC, to fight former three-time world heavyweight champ, Evander
Holyfield, May 20 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. The match-up will either
be for the WBA heavyweight title - if Lennox Lewis is stripped of the WBA
title for his failure to make a required mandatory defense - or a WBA/WBA
title eliminator to determine the undisputed No. 1 contender.
Management representatives of Ruiz's Corner have a meeting scheduled next
Wednesday in Las Vegas with promoter Don King to finalize plans. The official
announcement will reportedly be made Friday, March 3 during the Felix
Trinidad-David
Reid pay-per-view broadcast from Las Vegas.
A Greater Boston-based press conference will be held on a date and at a
site to be determined in early March.
