Ruiz-Holyfield Aug. 12 for WBA heavyweight title
June 23, 2000
CHELSEA, Mass. - The World Boxing Association
championship for the vacant heavyweight title between its top two
ranked contenders, John "The Quietman" Ruiz (36-3, 27
KOs) and former three-time champ Evander Holyfield (36-3-1, 25
KOs), respectively, has been rescheduled for August 12 at the
Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.
Ruiz-Holyfield was originally slated to fight
June 10, but the fight was postponed due to a Holyfield rib
injury.
"It's justice delayed, not denied,"
Ruiz's manager Norman "Stoney" Stone
said about the new fight date. "Johnny will start light
training right away. He's
glad the date has been set for August 12. He wants Holyfield to be
in the best shape of his life because John will be. He will be
ready."
