Sanders is Ready and Waiting: Christophe Neyts

As the deadline imposed by the American cable network, Home Box Office, looms for Don King and Panos Eliades to complete the necessary formalities for a Holyfield and Lewis rematch; another heavyweight is patiently watching and waiting.

WBU World Heavyweight Champion, Corrie Sanders, hopes that if the rematch cannot be agreed upon than he will get the opportunity to challenge Lennox Lewis for the WBC World Heavyweight crown in Las Vegas on November 13.

Lewis' backer, Panos Eliades, is currently in discussions with Sanders' promoter, Rodney Berman and his American counterpart, Cedric Kushner.

Southpaw Sanders immediately returned to South Africa and back into training having impressively knocked out Jorge Valdes in Bristol last month, watched by nearly a quarter of a million regional ITV viewers.

6ft 4in Sanders, who is currently applying for a British license, is trained by former WBA Welterweight title challenger, Harold Volbrecht.

Until now, it seems, Sanders' speed and agility has meant that his contemporaries, particularly British, have shied away from facing him having already seen him beat the likes of Johnny Nelson.

Golden Fists Managing Director, Rodney Berman, is confident that a major fight is not far away. He says: "I understand that the deadline for negotiations for November's rematch is tomorrow (August 20). If the deal falls through or has to be postponed, we, that is the whole team, would be both honoured and delighted if Corrie were given the opportunity to fight Lewis. However, if this were the case, I would say that this would be no easy defence for Lenox. Corrie is supremely confident that no heavyweight on the World scene today can match his incredible hand speed and would love to challenge Lennox or the WBO Champ, Vitali Klitschko, as he knows he is the best heavyweight on the planet."
