World Champ John Ruiz in Somerville Boxing Club's corner
Fundraiser May 10 at Kowloon

SAUGUS -- New World Boxing Association heavyweight champion John "The Quietman" Ruiz will be the special guest Thursday night, May 10 (6-10 p.m.) at the "Dinner with The Champ" fundraiser in the Kowloon Restaurant (Route 1N, Saugus). All proceeds will benefit the non-profit Somerville Boxing Club.

Ruiz, the first Latino world heavyweight champion of all-time, will be making one of his final public appearances before he goes into training for his first title defense August 4 in Bejing, China against Evander Holyfield in their third match-up.

"I owe a lot to the Somerville Boxing Club," Ruiz said. "I started my boxing career there and still represent it every time I step in the ring. The wonderful volunteers there have helped so many kids, in and out of the ring, over the past 20 years. I try to give something back to the club every chance I can and this is a great opportunity. The Wong family has been in my corner a long time and it's great that they're hosting this fundraiser. Kowlon's great food and a great cause like this is a winning combination."

"Dinner with The Champ" includes a Chinese food buffet, admission, reserved seating, and entertainment. Tickets are $50.00 per person, or $400.00 for a table of 10, and are available by calling the Kowloon Restaurant during regular business hours at (617) 394-0678. Visit Kowloon or John Ruiz (www.johnquietmanruiz.com) Web sites for additional information.
