The Cyber Boxing Zone Newswire -- APRIL 8:2001
Saturday at The Emerald Queen
By Katherine Dunn

Middleweight Kenny Ellis of Tacoma, Wa was moving along nicely there for a while in the 1990s against unremarkable opposition. Then, in March of '98 he took a big step up and got stopped in the 9th round by Bronco McKart . Ellis took off for a year to reconsider and then started making a herky-jerky comeback with uneven results. In the year 2000 Ellis decisioned Ron Pasek in ten, lost a ten to Santiago Samaniego, and was TKO'd in 3 by Darrell Woods.

Now, back home in Tacoma, the 31 year-old Ellis (23-3-2, 14 KO's) is scheduled for a ten round main event against another Northwest fighter with a yo-yo career, Tim Shocks of Seattle. The owner of something called the Canadian-American-Mexican super middleweight championship, Shocks is a 30 year old, with a record of 21-9-1, 14 Ko's and an erratic style.

The pair face off in a super middleweight match at the glossy Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA on Saturday night, in a show promoted by Brian Halquist, with Bob Oleson making the matches.

Also on this card:
In a six round heavyweight match, daring Cody Gray 95-0, 5KO's) of Tacoma steps in with veteran Shane Sutcliffe (22-11-1, 12 KO's) of Vancouver, B.C.

Six rounds, light heavyweight, Mark Woolnaugh (4-1-1) of Surrey, British Colombia tackles Nathaniel "Tex" Miles (5-15) of Tacoma.

In four round bouts:
Super middleweight Billy Kirwan of Portland, OR meets Lewis Sargeant of Vancouver, B.C.

Light heavyweight debuts, Mario Armando Higuera Gomez of Forest Grove, OR vs Joseph Vannett.
