Anani-Van Buskirk Clash at Seven Feathers
By Katherine Dunn

Seven Feathers Resort & Casino is tucked into the deep forests and ravines of Southern Oregon, but it's a classy and successful outfit with an adventurous streak. Take the ten round main event of the Saturday, Oct. 20 fight card, for example. It's an intriguing re-match between two genuinely respectable female fighters.

Sumya Anani, 28 years old, of Kansas City, MO, the first woman to defeat the famed Christy Martin. Anani used her long-armed, crafty boxing to win a ten round decision over Martin in December of '98. She's also defeated tough opponents Denise Moraetes, Andrea DeShong and Dora Webber. Anani's record going into this main event is 17-1, 7 KO's.

Britt Van Buskirk of Makanda, Illinois is forty years old but a serious fighter. The tall, rangey boxer has competed in divisions from middleweight to welter and Junior welterweights. While she was stopped in the third round by power lightweight Lucia Rijker, she drew with crafty counter-puncher Israh Girgrah. In fact, the only loss in Sumya Anai's respectable career was last year to Van Buskirk who won a six-round decision. Van Buskirk's record going in is 9-11-2, 5 KO's.

According to according to Jim Cassidy, Executive Director of the Oregon State Police Boxing and Wrestling Commission is as follows:

6 rounds, Super Middleweights, Kip Triplett (8-9-3, 1 KO) of Eugene, OR vs Scott Lansdon (4-8-0, 1 KO) of Baker City, OR.

Four round bouts:

Heavyweights, Patrick Plascentia (debut) of Portland, OR vs Reuben Torres (2-0) of Portland.

Jr Featherweights, Greg Piper (debut) of Portland vs Scott Smith (debut) Portland.

Super Middleweights, Raymond brady (0-3) of Dexter, OR. Vs Sinan Kuch (debut) of Portland, OR.

The first bout begins at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20. Ticket prices are $39, $29, and $19. Call Seven Feathers at 1-800-548-8461 for further information. Seven Feathers is located on I-5 at Canyonville, Oregon, just south of Roseburg.
