Fear of Flying Hits Undercard at Emerald Queen
By Katherine Dunn

Northwest matchmaker Bob Oleson has been scrambling to put together the undercard for the Sept. 29 Sho-Box fights promoted by Brian Halquist at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA. Oleson says he was looking to bring in fighters from Puerto Rico, Panama and even Australia, but in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack, "a lotta guys won’t fly," so his bouts are centered around local and regional boxers.

The Sho-box main event lists Ebo Elder of Newman, Georgia vs Dagoberto Majera of Bell, CA in a 12 rounder for the vacant WBO intercontinental super lightweight title. The co-main involves Joan Guzman of the Dominican Republic vs Celetino Caballero of Panama, or maybe somebody else.

Oleson’s undercard is still shaping with a couple of possible bouts pending. But as of a week before the event he’s feeling pretty confident of three bouts.

In a light-heavy four rounder, Jeff Simmons of Battleground, WA vs Mark Woolnaugh of Vancouver, B.C. In a four round heavyweight match, Cody Gray of seattle takes on Derrick Berry of Emmet, CA. Oleson says all four of these fighters have 5-1 records.

A welterweight six features Ito McKillop, 9-0 of Frederickson, CA vs Hito Bravo, 10-2-1, of Tucson, AZ.
