Tuesday Tease by Pedro Fernandez
OSCAR WANTS REMATCH WITH ALLY ASAP!

Defrocked WBC welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya is going against the wishes of promoter Bob Arum and clamoring for a rematch with Tito Trinidad. Arum would like the Golden Boy to go after WBC 154 lb. hobo Javier Castillejo in December on HBO, and then fight Shane Mosley next year on Pay Per View.

REASONS, THE REASONS!

Arum wants to avoid any dealings with Trinidad’s promoter Don King because right now DK has his nuts in a vice seeing he has the champion. And oh, is he squeezing them. That post fight spectacle that was the two of them nearly going to blows is still fresh in the ever so emotional Arum’s mind.

GOLDEN BOY SAYS

De La Hoya on the other hand, who is influenced by sponsors and outside advisors is adamant. He wants the fight with Tito so bad at 147 lbs. that he is telling his people to take any reasonable deal DK throws down. The reason being is that they feel Trinidad at 147 is much less of a threat than Felix would be at 154 lbs.

THE ALLY MC BEAL OF BOXING

One has to concur after looking at Tito at welterweight. To these eyes he looked "dead" at the weight. Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward said, "Trinidad was definitely over trained, or he is dead at the weight. I would have had Oscar go after his ass in the second round, test his strength because he looked so weak."

ON ALCAZAR

Robert Alcazar, one of Oscar De la Hoya’s trainers recently was quoted as saying that the reason Emanuel picked Trinidad over De la Hoya was that, "he missed the payday." The Kronk Goldfather was quite frank in his response. "That ****** ****** has got some nerve Pedro. I got more than I can handle with Lennox (Lewis), Naseem (Hamed) and Tommy (Hearns) too, plus a few others. So **** him."

GOLDFATHER MINI RANT

"Robert hasn’t shown Oscar anything new in years. That’s because what he does know doesn’t take very long to teach. That sounds like a joke, but it isn’t. Alcazar was kept around not because of his ability to train a fighter. It was because Oscar liked him, and he wasn’t a threat to Bob (Arum) or Oscar’s father Joel (De La Hoya)."

"It wasn’t just me, anytime a trainer got real close to Oscar, he was moved out. Their fear of losing control of the fighter has been a detriment to Oscar. You were right when you said they sacrificed the fighter in order to keep total control."

THE KING’S PLANS

Don King wants to do a Trinidad vs. WBA champ James Page in either Roberto Clemente Stadium in Puerto Rico, or NY’s Madison Square Garden. Then DK would like to have the winner (and he’s betting it’s Trinidad) face De La Hoya next year in the Garden. Oscar has stated he will fight Tito in New York if need be, but he wants it to happen now.

MANDATORY COLEY ON RING TALK SUNDAY

When Derrell Coley appeared on the Sunday night edition of Ring Talk, the #1 WBC contender at 34-1-1, with 24 stops let his feelings be known. When I asked him if he would take $200 K to allow Trinidad and De La Hoya to do a rematch he said, "No. I want to be world champion. I feel I can beat Trinidad, so why should I wait. I want the fight as soon as it can be made. I would not take $200,000 to step aside."

TYSON & HAMED ON RING TALK SATURDAY

Mike Tyson last appeared on Ring Talk in 1995. But Mike’s back in the crib Saturday night after he agreed to a much anticipated return. I’m ecstatic! Besides Tyson-Norris, I’m going to ask Mike a few questions on some of the greats and how he remembers them.

RESPECT AND CLASS

If you tune in expecting me to be engaging Mike, you’ll be sadly disappointed. I’m going to want Mike to get comfortable to the point where he’d once again start calling the show from limos and the like.

NAZ IN THE HOUSE!

This Saturday things are bound to be crazy when Prince Naseem Hamed, the colorful featherweight who is in most people’s minds the featherweight champion of the world, makes his first ever appearance on Ring Talk. 32-0, with 29 clips, the prodigal son from Sheffield, UK, will risk it all October 22, when Home Box Office features Hamed vs. WBC bossman Cesar Soto from the Joe Louis Arena in Motown.
