Fuller was a "sturdy aggressive battler who punches well with either hands" according to the New York Times (1932)

Sammy won the Featherweight Championship of New England in 1928 and claimed the World Junior Welterweight title by virtue of his May 1932 twelve round split decision victory over Jack "Kid" Berg; The problem was that Berg was not generally recognized as champion at the time

Fuller's claim to the title was ended completely when he lost to the generally recognized World Light Welterweight champion Barney Ross in 1933
