Campbell was actually a light heavyweight but won the Heavyweight Championship of Oregon during the late 1880s; He was a clever boxer and a quick, hard hitter

During his career, he defeated such men as Peter Lawler, Billy Hill, Jack Langdon, Joe Godfrey, Bill Dunn and Larry Sullivan; He is most famous for his "draw" against Jim Corbett
