Diego won the WBC Lightweight Championship of the World, the WBO Lightweight Championship of the World, the WBO Super Featherweight Championship of the World, the IBF Super Featherweight Championship and the IBA Super Featherweight Championship during his career

He defeated such men as Jose Luis Castillo, Joel Casamayor, Arcelino Freitas, Damian Fuller, Angel Manfredy, Justin Juuko, Derrick Gainer, Roberto Garcia, Claudio Victor Martinet, Juan Carlos Salazar and Javier Pichardo
