Douglas was a middleweight and light-heavyweight fighter who possessed pretty good skills; He started at the bottom and fought his way to the top; A hard-worker and fierce fighter, he met three world champions and five others who challenged for the title; "Dynamite" was the father of heavyweights James "Buster" Douglas and Billy Douglas

During his career, he compiled a record of 41-16-1 with 31 knockouts and defeated such men as Willie Warren, Wilbert McClure, Angel Oquendo, Pedro Soto, Karl Zurheide, Nate Collins and Al Quinney
