Hong was a scrappy competitor who lost but five bouts in a career of 50 contests; He was not a heavy hitter but was a battler; During his career, he won the WBA Super Bantamweight Championship of the World, the WBA Bantamweight Championship of the World, the OPBF Bantamweight Championship and the Bantamweight Championship of Korea

Soo-Hwan was a two-fisted fighter who moved well on springy, bouncy legs. He owned a beautiful left jab, accompanied by a stinging left hook and an assortment of left and right punches. In addition, he hit to the body and head. He was a prime example of the old addage, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" !!!

He defeated such men as Arnold Taylor, Venice Borkhorsor, Dong Kyun Yum, Orlando Amores, Shigeyoshi Ohki, Thanomchit Sukhothai and Berkrerk Chartvanchai

He has served as President of the Korean Boxing Commission (KBC) and is now working as Chairman - and doing a fine job !!!
