FLASHBACK TO THE 2003 HALL OF FAME
INDUCTIONS
by Dan Hanley
What began as an e-mail grew
into a curiosity, then matured into the grandest thread on an active message
board before finally reaching fruition with the induction of Rodolfo 'El Gato'
Gonzalez to the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003. To put into perspective the CBZ's role in this game, El Gato began his acceptance speech by saying, "First
of all I'd like to thank the members of the Cyber Boxing Zone..." And these
members are legion. Before taking this stroll down memory lane, on Rodolfo's
behalf I'd like to thank the tireless efforts of Steve (Gordoom) Gordon, Rick
Farris, Rudy (Rudyrooter) Ramirez, Danny (Wildhawke) from the UK, Greg Beyer,
Flatnose, Hap Navarro, Mike DeLisa, Chuck Johnston and all the others who made
the members of the WBHF take notice of the absence to their rosters of one of
the most underrated fighters of all time, Rodolfo 'El Gato' Gonzalez. My father
(also Dan Hanley) and I were fortunate to be at the Commerce Casino to welcome
Rodolfo to this pugilistic pantheon and I left with a smoking Minolta. So
without further ado, enjoy with us again the night of October 18, 2003.

A breakfast to remember. Clockwise from lower left: Pops,
Adolfo Perez of the WBHF, Pipino Cuevas, Cuevas' wife, Chiquita Gonzalez' wife,
Chiquita himself and Rodolfo Gonzalez. Oh, yeah...the eggs weren't bad either.
The autograph and souvenir show. From left: Joey Giambra,
Tony DeMarco, El Gato and Ernie Terrell.
Michael Carbajal, Troy Dorsey and Bobby Chacon.
Pops with huge fight fan, Frank Stallone.
Yours truly, garish ensemble and all, between El Gato and
the man he won the lightweight championship from, Chango Carmona.
