Prior to the 1889 Joe Choynski fight --
(Some statements in this article do not agree with findings)

The Alta California paper recorded that Glover was being trained and handled by Pete O’Brien.
“Unlike Choynski, Glover has a record that has won for him the reputation of being a first-rate
ring tactician. He defeated Rich of Chicago with bare knuckles, London Prize Ring Rules, in one
round; defeated Frank Whitton of Milwaukee, Marquis of Queensberry Rules, in two rounds;”

The article mentions several other rather obscure victims, but lists a Tommy Chandler as losing
on two separate occasions to Glover. If this is “the” Tommy Chandler, he was a useful heavyweight
who had fought John L. Sullivan. Frank also fought the famous heavy Jack Burke, the "Irish Lad",
who had given both Corbett and Sullivan lively bouts. Glover fought Burke six rounds and later
claimed he had been cheated out of victory. He later lost to John P. Clow of Denver in fifteen
rounds and also to Joe McAuliffe in forty-nine 3-minute rounds.
