Joe Goddard
(James Bradley)

BORN November 28 1861; Pyramul, New South Wales, Australia (Some sources report November 25 1861)
DIED January 21 1903; Camden, New Jersey (shot during an election riot)
HEIGHT 6-0
WEIGHT 182-200 lbs
MANAGERS Billy Madden, Ted Alexander

Goddard was a rough, tough, hard charging, belligerent puncher who much preferred infighting to fancy boxing; If he could get inside on a man, his chances of winning were great; Otherwise, he could be boxed rather successfully; He was Heavyweight Champion of Australia during his career

It was once written about Goddard (The Referee, March 5 1936) that he "was not a scienced man but he possessed prodigious strength, remarkable stamina and endurance and like the old time bulldog never knew when he was beaten."

During his career, Joe defeated such men as Joe Choynski, Mick Dooley, Joe McAuliffe, Jack Ashton, Peter Maher, Starlight (Edward Rollins), "Denver" Ed Smith and Billy McCarthy
