Cahill was a determined fighter with staying power; He fought out of the Scottish-American AC of Jersey City, NJ and was considered by many as the best amateur middleweight in the country; Fighting at a time when amateurs fought with professionals, he ran into difficulty when it was thought that he had taken money for a bout and was really a professional

During his career, Cahill defeated such men as Jake Pitz, Jim Butler (two times) and Nick Callan

          and requested a trial for Pat Cahill, the ex-middleweight 
          amateur champion of America. Since he is under investigation, 
          Cahill is deprived of his amateur standing until the result 
          of the trial is reached
