Cardiff was strong, tough and durable; He was a spoiler; Many a top man ran into a surprise when fighting the man from Canada who settled in Illinois; During 1887, two of the most dangerous hitters of the era - John L. Sullivan and Pat Killen - only managed "draws" against Patsy; During his career, he won the Heavyweight Championship of the Northwest and Heavyweight Championship of Illinois

He defeated such men as Jem Goode, Bill Bradburn, Denny Kelliher, Bill Gabig, Billy Wilson, John Donaldson, "Captain" James Dalton, George Rooke and Jim Fell

1881
