Famechon was a talented battler and worthy champion who waged war against the best around; With his fast hands and quick feet, he lost only five contests in a career of nearly 70 bouts and retired at the early age of 25 years

He won the WBC Featherweight Championship of the World, the Featherweight Championship of the British Empire (Commonwealth), the Featherweight Championship of Australia and the Featherweight Championship of Victoria during his career

Johnny defeated such men as Fighting Harada, Jose Legra, Arnold Taylor, Antonio Herrera, Bobby Valdez, Billy McGrandle, Freddie Rengifo, Vicenzo Pitardi, Les Dunn, Carmelo Coscia, Giovanni Gergenti, Andrea Silanos, Lothar Abend, Don Johnson and Michel Houdeau

Famechon was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Australian Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003
