Mesi-merized
By Keith Terceira

Joe Mesi has one of the strongest support staffs that a boxer can ask for. The term "Dream Team" immediately comes to mind.

Team Mesi , with Jack Mesi at the helm has masterfully maneuvered Baby Joe's career to within a couple of fights of a World Championship. All "Baby" Joe needs to do is focus on the fighting with this structure behind him. He has surrounded himself with a strong family core that can protect and oversee the business while he continues to improve his skills. I wish this group were running the companies in which my 401k is invested .

The winning combination consists of Mesi Family members with Father Jack in the lead, brother Tom, and sweetheart Jennifer Catania. Long time trainer Juan DeLeon , Carlos DeLeon, Angel DeLeon and Pat Kelly at ringside. Matchmaker Bob Spagnola of Houston, Gene Vukelic of Try-It Distributing Co of Buffalo, Strength Coach Chuck Pelitera from Canisius College and many others.

Reporters have written that Mesi is a strong regional fighter that was relatively unheard of. This is a myth that may be perpetuated by Team Mesi. The element of surprise is a good business strategy. I first became acquainted with Joe Mesi in 2000 during the bout with Matt Green in Biloxi, Mississippi and saw his knockout of Curry in Tulsa earlier this year. A little out of the New York region !. Half of Mesi fights have been out of the Region of Buffalo. From Oregon to Texas, Baton Rouge to Phoenix this Team has traveled to compete for the right at a World Title shot.

Like Rome wasn't built in a day neither is a Champion. Slow and methodical this career has progressed only stepping up a notch when Joe proved ready. Deaf ears greeted the media and fans that wanted a more instant gratification. This leads to articles that criticize and stirs the pot of descent, but this plan also leads to a stronger more expert fighter. Are questions concerning the quality of opponents by Team Mesi design? Comparisons to Marcianos opponent selections flutter about unrelenting. Will Team Mesi allow this legend in the making to be tarnished by a Marciano-Louis type match-up? Is a Holyfield-Mesi or a Tyson -Mesi in the works? Can the kayos continue to roll?

Predictions can be humbling so I tend to evade them like mosquitos on a summers night. I am comfortable though predicting that "Baby" Joe Mesi and Team Mesi will surprise, shock and entertain the world by becoming the Heavyweight Champion. Get set for the ride of your life.

This Ole Hoss rarely hitches to a bandwagon these days . Just consider me Mesi-merized .
