Michalczewski and Gonzalez Weigh In
By Per-Ake Persson

Hamburg, Germany -- Both Dariusz Michalczewski and Julio Gonzales scaled 174,25 lbs at today´s weigh-in. Gonzales was seen knocking down an energy drink after stepping off the scales, while "Tiger" looked red around the big scars he has around his left eye. The challenger has an advantage in height and reach but Michalczewski looked stronger.

As my train from Copenhagen rolled into Hamburg Hauptbahnhof I got a hint how big this fight is: on the main building where trains enter the station there´s a huge poster with Dariusz in his Tiger pose glaring down on the thousands of people coming into or leaving Hamburg. At the weighin the posters from all Michalczewski´s previous defences covered the wall. The event tomorrow will go out live to 22 countries. Cruisers Pavel Melkomian and Bruce Ozbeck have the unthankful position of swingbout and their scheduled 8x3 clash can also be shortened if needed to fit the tight TV-schedule.

On the undercard the heavyweight clash between Luan Krasniqi (229,25 lbs) and Julius Francis (261,25 lbs) will now be non-title scheduled for eight while Sergej Dzindziruk v Ariel Chaves will be for the WBO I/C 154 lb title. Dzindziruk scaled 153,25 while Chaves came in at 151 lbs. All in all there´s 6 pro and one amateur fight on the bill. Modern Sports & Events from Scandinavia have lightweight Geir Inge Jorgensen in against Slovakian trialhorse Joszef Lakatos Kubowski.
