Somerville, MA - Two years ago, it would have been difficult imagining someone being too strong for Peabody's Simeon Dunwell. A winner of the 2002 New England Golden Gloves tournament at 125 pounds and this year at 132 pounds, you'd think that the energetic Dunwell, who also earned the Thomas F. Costello Memorial Trophy, an award given to the most outstanding boxer of the New England Golden Gloves, would just be prepping himself for a third Golden Gloves title by winning his class at this year's New England Tournament of Champions.

But when he entered the 141-pound division earlier this year, things got much more difficult. In May, he needed a late rally and point deduction to top, England's David Byrnes in the inaugural Pender-Downes Challenge Cup Tournament. It was eveident that night that though he may have won the contest, he was clearly too small to compete at 141 pounds. Two weeks ago at a tournament in Brockton, it was more of the same, except he was thoroughly beaten by Weymouth's Nick Morganelli at 141 pounds.

Last night in the preliminary round in the 116th New England Tournament Of Champions at the Good Time Emporium in Somerville, Dunwell and Morganelli fought each other again, only this time, Dunwell needed what appeared to be a gift 4-round decision to defeat him. Not only did Morganelli appear to outmuscle the speedy Dunwell, he appeared to land the more effective punches, particularly with his right hand, which stunned Dunwell on a couple of occasions. Dunwell showed brilliant reserve in trying to steal exchanges and may have won the 4th and final round, but it was clear that Morganelli should have had his hand raised for the second time in two weeks ago.

I DONT KNOW WHAT FIGHT J.D VENA WAS WATCHING I THINK YOU BETTER STICK TO REPORTING ,BUT NOT BOXING. AMATEUR BOXING IS SCORED DIFFERENT THAN THE PRO'S YOURE SUPPOSED TO SCORE THE AMOUNT OF PUNCHES LANDED AND THE CLEANER FIGHTER NOT WHO MUSCLES THE OTHER AROUND WITH ILLEGAL HOLDING AND PUSHING.IN THE FIRST BOUT THATS ALL MORGANELLY DID ,IN THE NATIONALS HE WOULD NEVER GET AWAY WITH THAT TYPE OF FOULING.I FEEL THERES ANEW KING IN THE 141 DIVISION AND THATS SIMEON DUNWELLSO WATCH OUT.MORGANELLY GO BACK TO WELTER WHERE YOU BELONG.
