David Diaz headlines, "Speedy" Gonzales returns at Fire & Ice on December 12th at De Paul
Press Release Dominic Pesoli and 8 Count Productions, the Midwest's premier boxing promoters, caps off a huge year by presenting "Fire &Ice" on December 12th at the DePaul Athletic Center in Chicago. Headlining is the Chicago return of world ranked (WBO# 5) junior welterweight David Diaz, 21-0 (12) in the ten round main event against Louis Brown, 13-0 (9) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Local favorite Diaz, returns to action coming off an NBC-TV nationally televised win over Jauquin Gallardo on September 13th in Temecula, California. Diaz knocked down the very tough Gallardo in the first round and fought his way to a unanimous decision.
Also appearing on the card is the return of junior welterweight Al "Speedy" Gonzales 12-0 (7). Gonzales is coming off a tremendous win overJohnny West-Gutierrez this past July which was televised on the Friday night boxing series Solo Boxeo. Gonzales down in the first round from a big right hand which broke his jaw, came off the canvas to give fight fans a memorable comeback which will be talked about for years. Gonzales and West-Gutierrez traded bombs in a brutal war which had both combatants bloodied and battered with Gonzales taking a unanimous decision. The bout, reminiscent of matches talked about by our fathers and grandfathers, still has local fight fans buzzing. Opposition for Gonzales will be announced shortly. Gonzales wishes to make it clear to all the hyped junior welterweight prospects that he is ready, willing and able to fight all comers in 2004. In a special eight round attraction on the big card, New York City sensation, junior lightweight Darling Jimenez, 15-1-2 (6) takes on Mario Lacey, 6-4-3 (5) of Mobile, Alabama. Also appearing on the card in separate bouts are junior middleweight prospects, local knockout artist Luciano "Manos de Piedra" 3-0 (3) and Giovanni Lorenzo, 10-0 (4) of New York City. More information on these bouts will be announced shortly. Tickets, starting at $25.00, for this "wall to wall" action packed card, can be purchased by calling the 8 Count Productions office at 312-842-3800. The DePaul Athletic Center is located at 2323 N. Sheffield in the Lincoln Park section of the Windy City. Doors open at 7pm, first bell is at 8pm. As huge crowds are fast becoming the norm at 8 Count Productions' shows, fight fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance for best seats.
