Brazier, now 105-16-1, 64 KOs, was held even through six tough rounds by the youngster Wellby, 30-12-3, 11 KOs, but began too take control in the seventh round of a hard fought contest. "I really was a little over confident tonight," said Brazier. "I felt so good training that I expected to take him out, but he was tough as nails." One In A Million Boxing provided Northwest Indiana with a tremendous night of boxing action with Brazier returning to the ring in spectacular fashion and a tremendous upset in the Indiana Boxing Federation Super Middleweight semi final between Shay Mobley and Anthony Dennis. Brazier look surprisingly sharp for a 48-year-old athlete, and stood toe-to-toe with the quicker Wellby over the final four torrid rounds to edge out a unanimous decision. "It was a great moment for me, because this time I was focused and on edge like the old days," said Brazier. "I loved it. As good a time as an old man could have of an evening." Wellby gave the veteran contender his due, saying that he was outsmarted in the later rounds. "He just kept getting better every round, and tougher. I was absouloutly amazed," claimed Wellby. Promoter Octavious James said he was happy to give Brazier an opportunity to return to the ring. "Man, it was a pleasure to see him in action. It was like looking at a real professional," said James. Anthony Dennis successfully ended his challenge and took the I.N.B.A. super middleweight title from Shay Mobley of Chicago with a stunning one-punch knockout in the second round of a scheduled eight round bout. The two traded bombs for a round an a half before Dennis beat Mobley to the punch with a savage left hook that dropped the Chicago fighter flat on his back for the count of ten. A devastating kayo victory for the Indiana prospect. Young, veteran Ruben Galvan returned to winning form to capture a six round unanimous decision over Randy Dobbs of Cincannati. Galvan used hissuperior hand speed to take a fast paced decision. Light heavyweight prospect Jeff Baker pounded out tough four round decision victory over Donovan Smith of Wichita. The two fought on even terms forthe first two rounds, before Bakers superior conditioning began to prevail. Promoter Octavious James was very pleased with the show and said he hoped to return in February with former world champion Angel Manfreddy in the featured event. -30-
