Syd Speaks!

My response to Joe Calzaghe’s comments By Syd “The Jewel” Vanderpool

Quoting Joe: “If I fought everyone with a big mouth, I’d be fighting everyday of the week. Syd needs to focus on fighting his way up the job line at KFC.” What does Joe think I’ve been doing for the past six months? I’ve been trying to order a chicken Calzaghe. The problem is, that this chicken is of the boneless (or should I say spineless) variety. I need a chicken with at least some backbone!

Let me set this straight once and for all: Joe has held the WBO title for the past six years and has never once tried to unify the division with the WBC, WBA or the IBF. Suddenly, he wants to move up to light-heavy weight to become a two-weight champion!? Doesn’t that sound strange to anyone? Actually, not to me. The reason he hasn’t tried to unify the super-middle weight division in the past six years is the same reason he refuses to fight me…because he knows he’s a limited fighter with a limited amount of time to milk the fan’s money before they figure him out.

Calzaghe has been playing a game of calculated deception. He calls out Ottke and offers him 1 million when Ottke usually gets paid 1.5 million. He calls out Mundine and then insults him with an offer of $250,000. He talked about wanting to fight Hopkins at 160, when he himself admits he finds it hard to make the 168lbs limit. Now he wants to move up to 175 to take on more tomato cans.

Some of Joe’s excuses not to fight me have included, “Syd Vanderpool is looking for a big payday”. My response? I offered to donate 100% of my purse to a Wales children’s charity in his name. He still turned down the fight, agreeing to get in the ring with an easy win against Mger Mkrtchyan.

Mger has 18 wins, 8 of which have come from opponents with zero wins to their credit. In fact Mger's last opponent had a record of 0-0-0 (boxrec.com). This is the type of opponent Joe needs to face in order to retain his paper-title. It is beyond comical and it amazes me that boxing writers give him any respect at all.

Quoting Joe: “I want to fight a real fighter, a fighter that will do my career justice – not a wannabe!” Joe’s definition of “a fighter that will do my career justice” includes wounded opposition like Jimenez, Pudwill and Mger. I think we are all tired of listening to Joe’s transparent and embarrassing excuses. His actions speak louder then his words.

For now, I am going to stop wasting my time with Joey. It’s obvious he can’t handle the thought of being beaten and fried. I am going to turn my attention to the better and respected super-middle weights of the world including Ottke, Beyer, Green, Mundine and who ever else wants to step in the ring with Syd Vanderpool.

The irony in all of this is that I will be the one to unify the super-middle division and it will be Joey who will be coming to me for his career defining/ending fight. Unlike Joey, I will take the fight, and then end his career. But Joey should not worry about being unemployed, I’m sure KFC would love to hire him.

The first thing that comes to mind is Syd "who"? we all know Clazaghe has fought some stiff eg pudwill, but he has also beaten EUbank,Reid,Mitchell and Charles brewer, Vabderpool is hardly a step up in class (maybe a title belt would help Syd "who" get a fight with Calzaghe (although if i was him id avoid otke in Germany see the decision/referring in the reid fight" lets face facts Syd "who" brings nothing to Calzaghe ,he wont draw a crowd, doesnt even have a title belt and would also lose (almost certianly by ko) ,we al lwant to see Joe in the millenium stadium v hopkins (or that big mouth aussie Mundine) if not at least take a fight that wuld dar eg reid rematch or clinton wodds ( lets be fair Joe would box his hdead off) but wed get a dometic fight and it would sell, my message to Syd "who" is make your own name and not try to ride some one elses coatails
