Dibella Inks Brewer New York, NY - DiBella Entertainment has signed former IBF Super Middleweight champion Charles "The Hatchet" Brewer to a promotional agreement, it was announced today by DBE president Lou DiBella.
Brewer, currently ranked #2 by the WBO, 6th by the IBF, and 7th by the WBC, is the savvy veteran from Philadelphia who has posted an impressive career record of 40-9, with 28 victories coming by way of knockout, since turning pro in 1989. "As Ring Magazine pointed out in their latest issue, Charles Brewer has never been in a bad fight," said DiBella. "He's a true warrior and is positioned to fight for the WBO title if Joe Calzaghe moves to light heavyweight. The 168 pound division is filled with action fighters like Scott Pemberton and up and coming stars like Danny Green, Anthony Mundine and Jeff Lacy. Charles Brewer factors into the top echelon fights in this hotly contested division. I was proud when I signed Micky Ward a few years back and I am similarly proud to be Charles Brewer's promoter." Since losing a close decision to WBO Super Middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe on April 20, 2002, Brewer has reeled off three straight victories to place him right back in the thick of the super middleweight division. He has turned back Scott Pemberton, Etienne Whitaker and Freeman Barr in strong performances to gain top 10 rankings. Sven Ottke, who still holds the IBF championship, defeated Brewer for the title on October 10, 1998, and also won a September 2, 2000, rematch. Brewer is hoping that three will be the charm.
