"Speedy" Gonzales Headlines Chicago's Thunder on April 16th at DePaul Dominic Pesoli's 8 Count Productions is proud to announce further details of Chicago's Thunder, the nextwall to wall action packed professional boxing card at the DePaul Athletic Center on April 16th, 2004. Headlining this huge night of boxing is the return of undefeated junior welterweight contender, Al "Speedy" Gonzales as he takes on Rafael Ortiz in a scheduled eight round bout. Gonzales is coming off a nationally televised "Solo Boxeo" eight round draw against Jessie Feliciano on the last 8 Count Productions card on February 28th. While there has been talk of a rematch of that terrific battle between the two tough warriors, Gonzales will have his hands full with the very aggresive Ortiz. The Oregon native Ortiz was last seen in Chicago in September 2003 battling to a grueling eight round draw against Humberto Chavez that had a packed house of 3,500 at the DePaul Athletic Center on their feet the entire fight cheering on the fast and furious action.
Also appearing on the card in the co-main event is the return of Puerto Rican fan favorite, junior middleweight, "Macho" Miguel Hernandez in a scheduled six round bout as well as undefeated welterweight KO artist, Luciano "El Gallo Bravo" Perez in a six rounder. Hernandez comes off a hard fought decision win over Manji Conteh on the last 8 Count Productions card on February 28th while Perez took a decision in a bloody four round brawl over Juan Aguilar on the same show. Just added to the card is the return of welterweight Trinidad Garcia who made his pro debut on the February 28th card and middleweight David "The Weasal" Estrada in separate preliminary bouts. More information on these bouts will be announced shortly. Tickets, starting at $25 are on sale now by calling 312-226-5800. Fight fans are encouraged to purchase tickets well in advance as sellouts and packed houses are becoming the norm at 8 Count Productions' shows. The DePaul Athletic Center is located at 2323 N. Sheffield in the Lincoln Park section of Chicago. Doors open at 7pm, first bell is at 8pm. Rocky "The Mexican Kid" Martinez heads to New York City on Thursday, April 22nd to face the heavily hyped Paul Malignaggi in a ten round bout at the Manhattan Center. Rocky has been working daily with his new trainer, former undefeated world ranked featherweight Mike "The Fly" Garcia, at JABB Boxing Gym and is looking forward to battling the slick Malignaggi. David Diaz is back in action on Saturday, May 1st at Bally's Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey where he will be featured in the Main Events nationally televised NBC/Telemundo Saturday afternoon boxing series. Diaz is scheduled for a welterweight bout against three time world title challenger Demetrio Ceballos. Diaz is currently training in the hills of Colorado with undisputed welterweight champion of the world Cory Spinks as he prepares for his showdown with Zab Judah on April 10th in Las Vegas.
