A CBZ Exlcusive Interview with Dominic Pesoli
By Ben Torres

Dominic Pesoli of 8 Count Productions is taking a further step in meeting his motto of, “creating contenders, not pretenders.” He teams up with Kathy Duva of Main Events on an eventful Saturday afternoon of boxing at the DePaul Athletic Center in Chicago. The energetic Pesoli spoke with Cyber Boxing Zone about the upcoming card on May 15th and some future matches that will be promoted by 8 Count Productions.

CBZ: So tell us what new things are happening with 8 Count Porductions?
DP: I have a contract with Duva Boxing for an upcoming fight. The contract stipulates that the main event will be Demetrius Hopkins vs. Al Gonzalez as the featured bout on June 18th in Chicago on ESPN 2.
CBZ: How many rounds is the fight scheduled?
DP: Well, it's going to be Al's first ten rounder. I think Demterius has gone 10 before, I'm not sure. They do have the same record though, they're both 14-0-1. I think it's a real good match up. I think it's a good crossroads fight for both of them.
CBZ: How do you think the styles will match up?
DP: I'm haven't seen a tape of Demetrius, but from what I hear, he's a solid fighter with good power and sets things up with his jab. He has a real good amatuer background too. So with this fight Al really wants to make a good statement with be prepared. He's been training with Kevin Cunningham (Undisputed Weleterweight Champ Cory Spinks' trainer) in St. Louis, and he's been real focused.
CBZ: Why the move to St. Louis?
DP: Well, to keep him focused and to train to the best of his ability. With a fight like this he really needs to go somewhere and train and really think about this fight. There's a a lot of distractions out there so we felt he needed to go someplace else and focus. It's a big opportunity for him.
CBZ: Do you have any idea who else will be on that fight card?

DP: Duva boxing is looking to put Kindell Holmes (Holt)on the card as a co-main event in an eight round fight. They're looking for some one for him to fight. He fight between 140-147. It's still too early to figure out who else is going to be on the undercard.
CBZ: Good, are there any comments you have on the upcoming match this Saturday with Diaz?
DP: David looks great. He's been training at Windy City and at JABB. He looks great and in tremendous shape. He's always got a positive attitude and I think he'll be victorious on Saturday.

David Diaz (23-0-12) takes on tough former world champ Ener Julio (25-6-1, 18 Kos), as the televised opener for the NBC/Telemundo boxing series this Saturday. The headliners for the NBC televised portion of the card will be the promising and undefeated heavyweight contenders, Calvin Brock (20-0, 18 KOs) vs. Terry Smith (20-0-1, 15 KOs) in a ten round bout. In the televised co-main event, jr. middleweight prospects Sergio Mora (11-0, 3 KOs) and Les Ralston (13-0, 7 KOs) face each other in an eight round contest.

Also in action is local KO artist Luciano "El Gallo Bravo" Perez (7-0, 6 KOs) against Manuel Reyes (4-4, 2 KOs) in a light middleweight six rounder, plus the Windy City super middleweight "Macho" Miguel Hernandez (9-1, 7 KO) against an opponent to be named.

The doors open 11:30 a.m. and the first bell is at 12:15 pm. Tickets, starting at $25 to $100, can be purchased by calling 312-226-5800 or call the JABB gym at 312-733-5222.

Pesoli puts on excellent fight cards. I've been to a lot of his fights. Good step for him to open a boxing gym in Chicago.
