LeBlanc headlines ‘Plymouth Rocks’ PLYMOUTH, Mass. (June 3, 2004) – Three South Boston professional boxers, including two born in Ireland, are scheduled to fight Friday night, June 11 in “Plymouth Rocks” at Plymouth Memorial Hall.
“Plymouth Rocks,” promoted by Brennan’s Smoke Shop has been dedicated to the memory of boxer Dave “The Hammer” Hamilton, who recently died along with his five-year-old son, Marcus, in a single car accident. Former Massachusetts junior welterweight title challenger, Jimmy “The Dream” LeBlanc (9-6-3, 3 KOs), headlines “Plymouth Rocks” against William Foster (3-2-1, 1 KO), of New Haven (CT), in the eight-round main event. LeBlanc, of South Boston, has had three relatively high-profile fights in a row fall apart during the past few months against New England light welterweight champion Jeff “Hell Raza” Fraza (15-2, 8 KOs), Dimitry “Star of David” Salita (18-0, 11 KOs) and Scott DePompe (25-5, 10 KOs). Exciting junior middleweight Martin “The Irish Assassin” Thornton (7-1-1, 3 KOs), of Southie via Galway (Ireland), faces former WBF welterweight champion Bruce Corby, of Scranton (PA), in the six-round co-feature. Making his pro debut is middleweight Joe “Sugar” Rae, originally from Belfast (Ireland) and now fighting out of South Boston, against Bilai Burns, of Philadelphia. Rae, 20, had a 67-10 amateur record. Hamilton, of Hanson (MA), was scheduled to fight a rematch against light heavyweight Mike Bonislawski on the “Plymouth Rocks” card. Veteran Danny Sheehan, of Brockton, is now Bonislawski’s opponent in a six-round bout. Sheehan has been in against the likes of Mario Veit, Joey DeGrandis, Richie LaMontagne, Daniel Judah, and Sean Fitzgerald. Bonislawski, of Cambridge, has fought Scott “The Sandman” Pemberton, John Scully and Steve Collins. Junior middleweight Jose Medina (4-3, 1 KO), of Tilton (NH), faces 50-plus fight veteran Dennis “Boss Man” Burley, of Scranton (PA) in a six-round match. Former Massachusetts cruiserweight title-holder John “House of Rain” Rainwater (9-9, 3 KOs) had been added to the card against David Williams (2-1), of Philadelphia, in a four-rounder. Rainwater, of Worcester (MA), has faced heavyweight prospect Joe Mesi and has twice defeated New England cruiserweight champion Tim “The Hammer” Flamos. Also to fight is unbeaten bantamweight, Denise “Mighty” Moses (3-0, 3 KOs), of Lawrence (MA), versus TBA. All bouts and fighters are subject to change.
