In case you think it's easy being a half-way decent Boxing Commission Director, consider this job announcement posted at www.oregonjobs.org. The opening appeared when former Director Jim Cassidy was fired earlier this year.Wanted:

GENERAL INFORMATION

Currently there is one vacancy in the Gaming Division of the Oregon StatePolice.This position is a member of the management team and not represented by aunion.The Commission Director is responsible for the day to day program operationand administration of boxing and wrestling activities in the State ofOregon. The position serves to perform policy and other regulatory relatedanalysis, planning and development, provides oversight of lawfulenforcement and regulatory compliance consistent with statutoryrequirements and protects the integrity of boxing and wrestling operationsin Oregon.

AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace inaccordance with the 1988 Drug Free Workplace Act and Department Policy.Applicants will be subject to both a Computerized Criminal History andDriver and Motor Vehicle Services check as well as a thorough backgroundinvestigation. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediatedisqualification.

TO QUALIFY

Your application must show that you have:

Four years of experience in lead work or supervision; or four years ofexperience in staff-technical or professional-level work related to GamingEnforcement, Boxing or Wrestling.

This experience must have included participation in the management of aprogram, section, or unit including one or more of the following areas: a)development of program rules and policies; b) development of long- andshort-range goals and plans; c) program evaluation; or d) budgetpreparation.

A Bachelor's degree or courses in a field related to management such asBusiness or Public Administration; or a field related to Boxing &Wrestling, may be substituted for up to three years of the requiredexperience.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

On behalf of the Commission and the Department, this position prepares andmonitors program budget requests, responsible for fiscal planning andanalysis, maintain expense and review records, collect and record revenues(license fees, gross receipt, pay-per-view taxes); manage cash incomedeposits and receipt records, monitor accounting functions; and developcontract formats to protect financial and business integrity and interestsof the contestants.

This position will coordinate and schedule Commission and committeemeetings and publications of agenda; serve as advisor to Commission memberson program, statutory and legislative issues; provide oversight ininvestigation and enforcement of laws and administrative rules andimplementation of disciplinary measures; testify before legislativecommittees, enforce laws and regulations of Commission; and representCommission to the media, public and other political sub-groups.

Manager group program operations, recommend to the Commission theestablishment, adoption or repeal of administrative rules and policies;enforce administrative rules; recommend to the Commission qualificationcriteria for program applications; recommend to the Commission medical andlicensing requirements; identify and recommend to the Commission physicalfitness criteria and safety procedures/certifications of physicians toserve as consultants and ringside physicians.

On behalf of the commission, this position will determine Hearing Officerfor contested cases. Make interim decisions concerning fines and licensesuspensions; select and appoint officials of boxing events, review physicaland ophthalmologic exams and performance records of contestants prior toapproving match.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Moderate in state travel; frequent night and weekend work; interaction withdisgruntled clientele; regular interaction with certified physiciansregarding medical problems and substance abuse of, and by, licensees and/orapplicants; frequent exposure to and interaction with the media, publicinterest groups, and other political sub-groups.
