Gibbs Battles Edouard for Vacant USBA Middleweight Title Uncasville,CT- The Mohegan Sun casino will be the host to what should be an ESPN2 fight of the year candidate. "Sir" William "The Gladiator" Gibbs 17-0, 14 ko's, is set to take on "The Hatian Sensation," Daniel Edouard 15-0-2 8 ko's, for the vacant USBA Middleweight title. Gibbs, the cousin of undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, is rated #21 by the WBC while Edouard is ranked #23. Edouard knows that a top 10 IBF rating is at stake. "This is the biggest fight of my career to date, and I'll be ready," said an excited Edouard from his training camp in Big Bear, CA. "I have been sparring five or six rounds with Oscar De La Hoya and I'm gonna take the USBA Middleweight title home with me. Promoter Richie Cappiello is ecstatic to be bringing such a great main event in his first venture to The Mohegan Sun. "This main event is going to be an all out war," offered Cappiello. "These two fighters are all action with very good power and great chins. I truly think this fight will turn out to be a fight of the year candidate." Gibbs echoed what his promoter had to say. "I am training for what I expect to be a very tough fight with Daniel Edouard. I will be in the best shape of my career and on August 27th I will walk out of the ring as the new USBA middleweight champ." In the 10 round co-feature, newly signed Rasheem "Untouchable" Brown 14-1, 12 ko's, will make his debut under the Cappiello Promotions banner. Brown's only defeat came at the hands of world rated Aslanbek Kodzoev earlier this year on NBC and he can't wait to return to the ring. His opponent, battle tested Alberto Mercedes, 12-6-1, 8ko's, will provide a tough task for Brown in his comeback fight. Headlining the undercard will be an eight round New England Cruiserweight title fight between Billy "The Kid" Mofford, 9-1-2, 4ko's, and Roy Payne 17-12-4, 6 ko's. Both fighters have won eight of their last nine bouts and should be as competitve a fight as any on the card. "Nasty" Nick Morganelli, 1-0, 1ko, one of the most talented and exciting New England prospects in years, will be showcasing his extreme talent in a four round bout. Morganelli, of Weymouth,MA, won his pro debut in June after an amateur career of 101-17. Tickets to the event can be purchased by calling 508 587-3370. The complete card is as follows.
