Klinefelter wins Ringside International Tournament

By Adam Pollack

Kansas City, MO (August 18-21) - Iowa City native and University of Iowa student, Emily Klinefelter, ranked #1 in the U.S., won the women's senior 110 pound title at the Ringside International Boxing Tournament, defeating California's Heather Donoho (2003 114 pound PAL champion), Canada's Michelle Nelson, and Missouri's Chonte Walker (2003 106 pound Ringside champion). This is Emily's third consecutive Ringside title. The Ringside tournament is the world's largest, hosting over 1,000 boxers from multiple countries.

Emily would be this year's Olympic representative but for the fact that boxing remains the lone Olympic sport that allows men but not women to compete.

Katy Klinefelter, City High senior, won silver in the 125 pound junior division, losing a hard fought decision in a great fight to California's Adelaida Ruiz, the 2004 U.S. champion.
